How we got there: Flew from Chicago to Anchorage and then drove 2.5 hours south to Seward.

Favorites:
- Harding Icefield Trail – Strenuous 9-mile out and back hike with 3,953 ft elevation gain. Begins in the forest near the Exit Glacier Nature Center and climbs well above the tree line with a spectacular view over the 300 square mile Harding Icefield and Exit Glacier.
- Ranger-guided boat tour – Major Marine Tours offers several options for cruise destinations and lengths throughout the day. We did an evening wildlife watching cruise that featured a salmon and prime rib buffet.
Tips: Eat delicious crepes at Le Barn Appetit just north of Seward.
Next time: Go deeper into the park with a flightseeing tour or full-day cruise. Kayak in Bear Glacier Lagoon.
