07.26.22 : Making friends with the Scottish locals. Highland cattle originated in northern Scotland and the Hebrides Islands. Their wooly hair is great for withstanding the cool, rainy and windy conditions of the region and also gives them an epic set of bangs.07.25.22 : Another day, another castle. This one is Eilean Donan in Dornie, Scotland. Due to strategic position on an island at the confluence of three lochs, the site has seen quite the array of conflicts over the centuries. In 1719 the castle was destroyed, but was reconstructed to its present state in the early 20th century.07.24.22 : A rainy/foggy day kept us from hiking, so we headed to Dunvegan Castle and gardens. It was constructed between the 13-19th centuries and is still the seat of Clan MacLeod. One of the family’s famous heirlooms is the Fairy Flag (last pic) which is said to have mystical powers to aid the MacLeods in various situations of need.07.24.22 : River Brittle below the Fairy Pools on Isle of Skye during high water.07.24.22 : The normally placid Fairy Pools near Glenbrittle, Isle of Skye were transformed into raging waterfalls by heavy rain during our visit. Even wearing rain coats we were soaked through after the 2.6 mile walk. Side note: A full outfit change in the back seat of a Vauxhall Corsa is an exercise in contortion.07.23.22 : After a long and wet day of exploring we stopped in the town of Portree. As the most populous settlement on Skye, it offers the largest selection of restaurants, in addition to this picturesque harbour. BTW this pic was taken at almost 10:00pm… it stays light late that far north.
